Go-To Green Smoothie

I love a good green smoothie, especially a simple and nutritious one. This smoothie is so easy to make, and you most likely already have all of the ingredients in your fridge and pantry. Unlike many green smoothies out there, it also doesn’t taste very “green” – my cat (Stephanie) even tries to drink it!

Green apple adds just the right amount of sweetness, spinach is rich in vitamins and minerals, and lemon juice and fresh ginger help to reduce bloating. One of the best things about this recipe is that the ratios of liquid to vegetable to fruit to ice are perfect, so it’s a great template to use when swapping in your favorite ingredients.


-1 cup ice

-1 cup water

-2 cups fresh spinach

-1/2 green apple

-1/2 lemon, juiced

-1-2 slices fresh ginger

-1 scoop vanilla protein powder


  1. Combine water, lemon juice, ginger, and spinach in a blender, and blend on high until a fluid mixture has formed. This step removes any leafy chunks from your smoothie.

  2. Add the rest of the ingredients – ice, green apple, and protein powder to the blender, and blend on high until combined. For an extra creamy and "fluffy"smoothie, blend for an extra 30 seconds - 1 minute.
