SK Health & Wellness Receives Sunshine Blogger Award

I was so excited/surprised to hear that SK Health & Wellness received a bloggers award! I have only been writing for about 11 (9 when I was nominated) weeks now, with the simple intention of sharing my knowledge to help others achieve their health and wellness goals, so I’m pretty ecstatic! In these few weeks I’ve connected with some other amazing women, including Eden, the author of With Wildflowers I am so thankful and humbled to have been nominated by a woman with such a beautifully presented, honest, and thorough blog.

With Wildflowers is a music and lifestyle focused blog; Eden beautifully captures her travels, shares amazing music & drool-worthy recipes, and shares her awesome style (be sure to check her out on IG as well @withwildflowersblog). The Sunshine Blogger Award is awarded to bloggers by other bloggers, and is a great way to get to know other accounts that you follow on a more personal level, and discover and connect with new bloggers and people.

Soo get ready to learn more about SK Health & Wellness; here are my answers to Eden’s questions!

What is the meaning of your blog’s name/why did you choose it?

I wanted a blog name that was pretty straight-forward, but also individual to me. So SK Health & Wellness seemed like a good fit – I wanted to clearly communicate what I am all about, and what I focus on/stand for.

How long have you been blogging?

As of now I’ve been blogging for about 11 months! In the past (during college) I’ve started/stopped 2 blogs, but wasn’t feeling passionate and motivated enough to keep them going. One was sharing healthy recipes, and the other was sharing cakes (I used to work in a bakery).

Why did you start your blog?

Well to make a long story shorter: I graduated from BU in May with a degree in Nutritional Science and Public Health, and within a month moved to VA to live with my boyfriend and start working as a full-time adult. I currently work in an amazing personal training studio (Fitness Together, Norfolk VA) that really allows me to utilize my nutritional background, knowledge in wellness, and training abilities to my full potential. However, being in a new State I felt a bit isolated, and wanted to be able to share my knowledge on a broader level, and connect with inspiring women in the process. It’s been so fun for me just to be able to share my recipes and knowledge, without any expectations besides putting the information out there to hopefully help individuals achieve their health and wellness goals.

What are your favorite things to blog about?

I love sharing recipes, but my favorite topics to blog about are wellness and dieting. There are SO many diets/nutrition trends out there, and I just want to help people sort through the BS and find what works for them. I’m all about evidence-based nutrition, and with wellness focusing on the uniqueness of each individual to find what works for them and their lifestyle.

Where do you live?

Hampton Roads VA! Only been here about 2 months, before that I was in Boston for 4 years attending BU.

What is the weirdest thing you have ever eaten at a restaurant?

One time at this very trendy restaurant I had this appetizer plate of different types of canned sardines, and they were served with different colored salts…it was definitely “interesting” and very underwhelming haha.

Do you have any pets? What are their names?

I have a cat named Stephanie, who is psycho and I am so in love/obsessed with her. My boyfriend thinks it’s strange, but I don’t care! She has such a fun personality, kind of like a dog. She is definitely a “people cat”, knows I’m her mom, has the energy levels of a kitten, and tries to parkour around our apartment. I’ve had her for almost two years, and it’s been especially great having her through this transitional time in my life! We are hoping to get a dog sometime this year, so maybe she’ll have a brother or sister soon!

If you had to eat one cuisine for the rest of your life what would it be and why?

Mexican – I love everything about it. Fresh vegetables, spices, cheese, salsa, avocado, meat…it’s just perfect and I’m never not in the mood for it.

What is your favorite dessert?

Pavlova – it combines all of my favorite things: whipped cream, meringue, and berries.

Who are your top three favorite artists or bands?

This is a hard one…I’m not really “musically cultured”, and just listen to the radio or whatever my boyfriend shows me (he is the one who is really into music). We saw Chance the Rapper in concert last month and that was awesome so maybe him, I don’t like to admit it but I like Justin Bieber’s recent music, and Beyoncé is just perfect.

If you could travel to anywhere in the world, all expenses paid, where would you go?

Spain! I went for a month right after I graduated high school, and I am dying to go back and see more of the country. I love the culture, history, people, and food (of course), and have a really good friend who lives there that I’d love to see again.
